Wine Drank by John Jaster
I went from tea totaler to Wine Century Club member and have tried 156 different wine grapes in three years.
Fetzer (Gewurztraminer, Merlot, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir)
Fetzer Vineyards, California (A Comprehensive Review) - My first experience with Fetzer was their 2007 Gewurztraminer which although not a standout did have some very good flavor and earned a 6 out of 10 "upper average" rating from me in a separate review.  At under $10 I thought I might be on to something good, and after looking at their website and noting their awards and progressive practices I wondered if I'd found a quality affordable wine label.  SO, I stocked up on their other kinds.  No bottle is ever more than $10, and Fetzer is ubiquitous enough I can get it in even the tiny liquor stores near my home.  So how did the rest do?  I'll list them in order of preference.  Gewurztraminer is top of the list.  Next is their Merlot 2005 which actually had pretty good flavor though the weight still reminds me of cheap wine, so I score it a 5 out of 10 for lower average.  In fact all the remaining wines score the same though the quality keeps dropping as I list them.  Next I'd list the Chardonnay 2007 which was drinkable fine but not a standout.  And then we have a list of disappointments which had little or no flavor - Zinfandel 2006, Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Pinot Noir 2005.  Maybe Fetzer has still other varieties I haven't found to add here, but you know what - I don't really care to look for them.  The vast majority of these samples were boring, weak, and possible worth more like $5 than $10.  In the end the only Fetzer I'd bother to buy again is the Gewurztraminer.
