| Well during the school year, Tina had the brainchild of going to visit Veto in New York for his birthday. The trip materialized in mid-June. I went to New Albany to travel with Tina, Katie and Roy. We departed for New York while Palak and Jeff left Indianapolis. We would meet up in Columbus, Ohio. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Katie, Ray, gimp and I went to dinner at Tumbleweed on Wednesday night. We scared a lot of other customers, had a great time, and Katie tried to lose her money. Thursday, we got up at 5am drove to Columbus, OH. There, we met Palak and Jeff after an hour of waiting for them at a rest stop. We then drove to Wappingers Falls, NY, where Veto lives. We got there around 8pm and I was so happy to see him! We took him out to Rolling Rock Cafe(local rip-off of Hard Rock) for dinner to celebrate his 21st. He had three drinks, including a probably 3 oz. 'shot' of Jack, and was completely gone. We took him to Walmart to walk it off a little before we took him home. On Friday, we went to lunch at Friendly's. Yes, it was good. Veto is vindicated. Only the service was anything but friendly. We also took him to the bank and the DMV to get his license renewed. And we went to the mall. Now, here is where Veto made a mistake. He took three girls to the mall, and then expected them to leave soon thereafter. We were there for at two hours. Katie, Palak and I got similar Old Navy shirts to wear to the city. The rest of the night we hung out at Veto's house, and had dinner with his family. Saturday, we got up early and took the train to NYC. It was so awesome. (Except for the rain.) After a small subway mishap/adventure, we got to Battery Park (down by the Statue of Liberty) where I bought a fake Gucci watch - we call it my 'Fucci' - from a street vendor. I also picked up an I <3 NY T-shirt there. Then we walked to Ground Zero. It was.....surreal. Then we took the subway to the Empire State Building, but when we got to the top, visibility was literally 0. We were just in a cloud. But it was still somewhat interesting. Unfortunately, gimp lost his camera later which had our only pictures from the top. We walked back to our hotel (which was on Grand Central Station), and then headed to dinner at the Jekyll and Hyde Club. It was a lot of fun, the food was good, but we definitely had sticker shock at the price. Let's just say Veto and I only spent slightly less than we did at A Different Drummer. Sheesh. But it was really cool! We took the subway back to the hotel once more, got changed, and then took the subway to Times Square. Then the group split up and we went to our shows. Palak, Jeff and gimp saw Lion King. Veto and I saw RENT. They were both wonderful, and we had a great time! Subway back, and then sleep. gimp, Veto and I went to St. Patrick's Cathedral for mass on Sunday morning. They have mass every hour on the hour, so they don't have time for the cool stuff I like about mass. Terms used to describe it: "Mass on Speed" and "Hyper-Mass" We checked out of the hotel, and then took the Metro-North train back to Poughkeepsie, and then to Veto's house. His mother had made us lunch, we partook, and then headed home. We got back to New Albany around 2:30am last night, and slept until noon today. gimp just left from New Albany a few hours ago. That's the quick run-down. Funny stories to be posted later. -Take from Tina's Livejournal

Souvenier Shop Shenanigans Palak and I went to a souvenier shop across the street from the Empire State Building. While I was standing outside looking at postcards, a man from Bangladesh came up and started talking to me. He asked about where I was from, what I did, where I went to school. He asked me what there was to do in Indiana, and I told him practically nothing. He told me about how boring Texas was and how awesome it was to live in Florida, but that NYC was pretty cool. When Palak approached us, he began speaking to her about living in India, being a foreigner, and such. When we went inside the store, we discovered that this man was in fact the owner of the store. He was totally hitting on me, and even to the point where he started giving us uber-discounted merchandise! We got things from that shop for about a quarter of what we should have paid. It was awesome! The prices had one condition.... that I let Palak take a picture of me and him with my camera. He he he.... Then, he gave me his business card and told me that if I called him, that he would call me back. Then as I walked out the door he casually yelled back "How's your boyfriend?" and I said "Good, and sitting down the street!" -Taken from Tina's Livejournal

Trip to St. Patrick's Well first Tina had directions to get us to the church. She said something about 5th Avenue being one way. That is no big deal, she started walking us the wrong way down the street. Toward the Empire State Building at which time she said I could check a the McDonald's that I lost my camera, but I was like that is the wrong way. So we turned around luckily we only went part of a block the wrong way. We quickly turned around; this is also when I realized that Tina had the directions from St. Patrick's to Grand Central and that is why the route went down that street. She also mistook Veto's comment about S1 Avenue. It was funny! Anyway we got within a block of the cathedral and she was like we need to cross the street. about halfway down the block I went what's that? It was the church, she had us cross the street for no reason. None of us saw the church any earlier. So we recrossed the street to get to the church. Once there, the mass started pretty quickly. Any catholic knows that a mass every hour on the hour is not going to be that much of a mass. After all old people like to show up early and the church never clears immediately. So the service lasted thirty minutes: no music, quick collection, and lots of other less stuff. so the mass was extremely quick, moved at lightning speed. Well during the mass I was also asked to collect money fo the church, but I said no thanks since I didn't want to embarrass myself by fucking up in church. But there was a lot of ushers to get the collection collected extremely qucikly. On the way back from the church we had a few stereotypical moments in New York. First we saw the smoking sewer. Which I proceed to tell Tina how it was waiting to be discovered by a great talent agent so it will make movies. After that we nearly got ran down in the crosswalk by a cab, but luckily the guy honked at us and didn't just run us down. After this adventure in Manhattan, we returned to Grand Central Station and got everyone ready to leave and get back to Veto's house. -Taken from gimp's Livejournal

Parental Veto Can I say how odd it is to see Veto being parental type. It was so weird to see him curb someone else's fun. Which is what he did to his brother several times during the weekend we were at his house. When we pulled up on Sunday after being in the City., Veto's brother asked us to run over his skateboard so he could get a new one. Veto then told him to stop it and go inside so he didn't hurt himself. So we have proof that Veto can be parental. It is just funny to see, especially since all the things that we shouldn't have done! -Taken from gimp's Livejournal
