| Trip to Sunny Florida | ||||||||||
| Well I went to Florida during the sophomore year of high school. It was during the early part of January, hence why we saw a New Year's Day game in Orlando. Now the trip came from my brother's ability to pick winners of sixteen games during the year to get into the final contest. He then had to get the most right plus closest to the score of game 16. This is a competition ran by my local newspaper and originally involved the winner recieving tickets to the Rose Bowl and then the Super Bowl. Shortly before my brother won, the contest winner started to get tickets to the Citrus Bowl. Now the winner of the contest that still runs gets tickets to a home game of the Indianapolis Colts. My brother does not play since it is such a small prize now. These following stories will be about the vacation that he, my mother and I took that first week of January. | ||||||||||

| Well instead of flying down to Florida, we cashed in the plane tickets and drove down to Florida. We went through Alabama where there was a Crakel Barrel that was evenly divided between Auburn and Alabama paraphanelia. Plus we had a little misunderstanding with my directions when my mom thought I said something about Alabama State Road 1 and Interstate 1. We got to Florida without any trouble really, but I didn't get to drive despite having my license; I only had it for a few weeks though. We arrived at our hotel. While Paul, my brother, and I were in the hotel we overheard two guys talking about the weather. They were complaining about how cold it was. It was so cold that they almost could not wear shorts to go out golfing first thing in the morning. How rough, Paul and I thought. Especially since the two of us were wearing shorts in the elevator. We first went to Disney World. My mom had got tickets somehow through her work so that we only had to buy tickets for one of us. This made the day infinitely cheaper. The park was full, likely because it was December 31st and the park was going to kick off an anniversary celebration with the new year. My brother and I spent a long time in Epcot. We did most of the rides in the area as well as looking at the different nationality food courts in the area. We finally decided to leave for the Magic Kingdom to only find out that the park was full and not letting anyone into at the moment. So we had to wait around a little bit longer in Epcot before we got to the Magic Kingdom. On New Year's Day, Paul and I went to watch the game. The tickets were actually quite good. The only bad part of them was that all the scoring seemed to happen at the other endzone. Tennessee played an extremely good game and beat Northwestern quite well. This was also one of Peyton Manning's last games as a collegiate at Tennessee. The other bad part of the seats was the fact that we were sitting above the Tennessee University band. The band proceeded to play 'Old Rocky Top' everytime the Volunteers scored or made a good play. That happened a lot, so we knew the song quite well by the end of the afternoon. On the next day we went to Universal Studios which was really close to our hotel. This theme park was more for my and Paul's age. It had more roller coasters and rides for young adults. We went on the Terminator Ride, Jaws Ride, Back to the Future Ride, and ET Ride. Plus there was the shows about Alfred Hitchcock and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. This was a lot cooler than Disney World, but both were a lot of fun. We then headed for home with much trouble. I went back to classes and the cold Indiana weather after enjoying free time and the balmy Florida climate. |
