ROLLED SUGAR COOKIE (my favorite) 2 cups white sugar 1 tsp soda 1 cup shortening 1/4 tsp. salt 3 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup sour milk* or buttermilk 4 tsp. baking powder Mix soda in buttermilk or sour milk. Use enough flour to make it stiff enough to roll. Cut out and place on baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. *To sour milk, put in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk.
PEANUT BLOSSOMS (kids love this one) 1 and 3/4 cups sifted flour (I never sift) 1 tsp. soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed) 1 egg, unbeaten 2 tablespooons milk 1 tsp. vanilla Mix shortening and sugar, add peanut butter. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients and mix well. Shape by rounded teaspoonsful into balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, bake at 375 for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and place a solid (unwrapped) chocolate candy kiss on top of teach cookie, pressing down gently so that cookie cracks around the edge. Return to oven and back 2 to 5 minutes longer. Yield 3 dozen. (Better hide these until Christmas or make two batches) ummmmmmm. (this is exactly how the recipes is printed in my cookbook).

Shap into small balls and roll in granulated sugar. Bake on greased baking sheet at 350 for 15 minutes. Very good, enjoy.
