| Implode - S/T self-released CD - 1999 First off, let me tell you that the Implode guys are very, very serious about their band, which is still unsigned. When lead vocal / guitarist Mark Conforti offered to send me this CD in for a review, I only had to say yes and hop! it was on my mailbox four days later... impressive. Musically, Implode are great!! They play mean, streetwise old-school hardcore a la Madball and maybe even some Biohazard... Much positive angst and power emanates from their music, but it's not all rough and tough, as there are some melodic minor and seventh chords which bring new directions in otherwise purely old-school riffs. Not much chugga-chugga here, but some power throbbing is thrown in at times, all in a decent measure. Overall, I am very pleased with this album! Order it directly from Mark Conforti, 905 Broad St. Apt B6, Bloomfield, NJ 07003, USA... all for the very low amount of 7 american dollars... {Jeff Lambert-QUEBEC HARDCORE NEWS} "Now, for you hardcore fans, we have a local project called IMPLODE...They have a recent release, a self-titled CD comprised of 11 well-engineered, hardcore songs. IMPLODE are only three guys, Mark (vocals, guitar), Brian (drums) and Jay (bass), but their sound is big and full. Having lost stage time due to a serious weightlifting injury, IMPLODE were wise to use the down time to release the CD and make their mark through this recording. They will make good impressions with it...These guys will be a big part of the local hardcore scene once the rest of you get to know them...(Jane Jubilee, East Coast Rocker, Aquarian Weekly) "If you get the CD, check out "Second Wind", it's great old school style hardcore." (Dana White,CORN ZINE) "The best thing about this CD for me is the straight forward lyrics. They're easy to understand and don't go for the flashy thing. I like the cover a lot too" (TALES FROM THE BONFIRE) "...A mix between old school and melodic hardcore...something different, give it a try." (MISFORTUNE) "...I liked the lyrical sentiment to "Guerilla Warfare," all about how music has become too much of a business and sucks the creativity out of the artist. The bridge on that one, though simple and clean, is more effective than any widdly diddly posturing. Vocals are raw like the old Prevaricators, but are clearly discernable - you don't need a lyric sheet. It's the kind of record that grows on you with each listen. The band obviously put a lot of careful time and money into this one. The funny thing is, I was sure I wasn't going to like this. Boy, was I wrong!" (GUILLOTINE) "This band is too good for you not to even hear of them. They are from Jersey, and that is a big plus already. They sound like old NYHC. I am not talking about like YOT style, I mean more like old AF, Cro-Mags, Killing Time. Those type of bands. Metal tinges come out every once in a while, you know how it is. The lyrics are simple, but really good too." (THE SPIRIT REMAINS) "Before I even get into the music I gotta give these guys a Stone Cold "Hell Yeah" for the pictures in the layout of the CD. The cover is of a guy with a guitar jumping over a guy doing a brake stand on a crotch rocket with the tires smoking and all. The inside cover is of a Street Cleaner decked out with the bands name and a skull and crossbones. Funny shit. Anyway a lot of bands come to mind when I listen to this band...I hear a lot of influence from the likes of Sheer Terror, Killing Time throw in a lil SOIA and maybe some others... I?d definitely like to check these guys from Jersey out live."(Skully, UNITED AND STRONG) "Positivity is all that you feel from this NJ trio. Hardcore, straight forward and to the point with no metal gimics. Positive, smart lyrics, usually being sung (or screamed) over fast music."(BATTERING RAM DISTRO) "these guys keep it real with sticking to the oldskool all the way. They've got a real positive message to relay." (Urban Terrorist Recordz) |
