1) Homosexuality is against the natural law.
2) If gay marriages are legal, then society is moving further away from the natural law.
3) The further away society moves from the natural law, the further away we move from mankind's intended purpose.
4) The further away we move from mankind's intended purpose, the more defective society will be.

Statement 1: Why It's Against The Natural Law

Homosexuality includes both the "love" between the two partners and the sex between the two, and they are both intrinsically tied together. When two people love each other, it follows that they will have sex, which is the ultimate expression and consummation of their love. Since the two are so closely connected, if one is morally wrong, so is the other. In this essay, I will focus on why homosexual sex is wrong, but keep in mind that if homosexual sex is wrong, then so is acting upon homosexual "love" (feeling homosexual "love" is a feeling, not an act of the will, so it is not wrong, but acting upon it is).

If we look at the sexual organs, we can see that they were made specifically to be used between a man and a woman, not a man and a man or a woman and a woman. We see that our creator intended sexuality, and by extension marriage (because the two are intrinsically linked), to be between a man and a woman only.

Part of the reason why sex is intended to be between a man and a woman is because sex is intended (at least partly) to produce children, but homosexual sex cannot do this. Here we have a specific reason (as opposed to the general reason given in the previous paragraph) why homosexuality is wrong that some may see as a bit more concrete and easier to hold onto.

The question, then, is why isn't heterosexual sex between a man and a naturally sterile woman (or a woman and sterile man) wrong if it can't produce children either? Well, here's the thing. A sterile couple is using their sexual organs in the right way, but they don't function properly. In homosexual sex, however, the sexual organs are being used in ways that are contrary to their intended purpose. There's a difference between an inability to produce children because the sexual organs can't function properly and an inability to produce children because the sexual organs are being misused.

Statements 2, 3 and 4: Why Gay Marriages Should Be Illegal

Statement 2 is common sense. The more you violate a set of laws, the further you move away from its principles.

Statement 3 flows logically from statement 2, so I will only spend a sentence explaining it. When God created us, He gave us a natural law to help us live as He wants us to live, so the further away we move from that law, the further away we move from our intended purpose

Statement 4 flows logically from statement 3, but a bit of explanation here would be best in case anyone doesn't fully grasp the connection. First of all, it makes sense that if we start acting contrary to our intended purpose, we won't function properly. We were made for a specific purpose, and anything contrary to that purpose is harmful to us. For example, we know that killing is against the natural law, and if we started to kill people at random, society would go down the drain pretty quickly. While homosexuality is not as bad as killing and the deterioration of society would not happen as quickly, it would eventually destroy society. Secondly, once we start digressing from the natural law in lesser ways like homosexuality, we begin to move closer to deviating from the moral law in more serious ways, such as murder and theft. To safeguard the more important moral laws (homosexuality is not the worst sin, but it is still a violation of the moral law, which is always a serious wrong), we must also uphold those that impact us less directly.

Given this, we can see why it's wrong to argue that gay marriages should be legalized because they don't hurt anyone. On the contrary, they hurt EVERYONE by moving society away from its intended purpose.

Answers To Objections

Objection 1: Homosexuals can't help being attracted to members of the same sex; it's natural. We have no right to say that they're sexual orientation is somehow unnatural.

Answer: Kleptomaniacs can't help being kleptomaniacs. It's who they are; it's natural. Just because something is supposedly "natural" doesn't mean it's right. Something can be a disorder but still come from natural causes.

Objection 1a: You can't compare homosexuality and kleptomania. Kleptomaniacs hurt people immensely, but homosexuals don't, so the two aren't even in the same league.

Answer: This misses the point of my argument. Regardless of whether or not something hurts people directly, it's still wrong if it violates the moral law. My whole point is that if something like kleptomania is "natural" but still wrong, something like homosexuality can be just as "natural" and still be wrong, even if it's wrong for a different reason.

Objection 2: Homosexuals are humans just like us, and they should have the same rights that we have. Therefore, nobody can tell them that they don't have the right to marry.

Answer: We can all marry a member of the opposite sex, and nobody can marry someone of the same sex. Just because homosexuals have a disorder that causes them to marry someone of the same sex doesn't mean they have that right. We all have the right to have fun, but just because a pyromaniac wants to go burn someone's house doesn't mean that he can and that to prohibit him from doing so would infringe upon his rights. If someone has a disorder that causes him to act contrary to the moral law, he cannot act on that disorder and violate the moral law.
