Guidelines for Posting Messages

Home        Prelude       Characters        Maps        Game Information

Here is the guide for submitting posts to the game. Please follow this guide so that everyone is doing things the same way, so that messages are easy to read, follow, and refer back to when needed.

First of all, the subject of the Email should follow this format:

(your character name) Chapter #, Section #
I will increment the chapter number occasionally. Chapter 1 will start with our travel to the site of the quest, Chapter 2 will start when we enter the lair of the baddies, and so forth. The chapter numbers will help me a lot when Im referring back to archives for different information.
The Section number is just another way of saying week number. Every week when I update the game well increment the Section number. This is mainly for archival purposes. In the past its been really tough to find really important messages sometimes, and Im hoping to avoid that here.

In the body of your messages I only have a couple of formatting requirements. I know that many people have elaborate systems where different symbols mean actions or "if/then" conditions and all sorts of things like that, but I like to keep things as simple and straight forward as possible.

First of all, any Out of Character comments should have double slashes ( // ) on both sides of the comment. There is no need to write OOC or anything like that just put // in front and // in back of the comments.

Secondly, please put a name header in parenthesis at the beginning of content if the Email contains text from more than one person. So, if youre quoting someone else, put their character name (and the word old) in parenthesis before their part and then put your name before your part. There is no need to do a begin (charactername) and end (charactername) because we can assume that their part ends right before your part begins.

Having the name of the person who is speaking makes long messages SO much easier to follow, I think. And putting old near a characters name really helps to keep the email easy to read. There have been so many times when Ive gotten confused about who is saying what and had to re-read an Email, or scroll to the top to see who is writing the Email, and life is so much simpler with an easy thing like writing old by the characters name.

Here is one of my pet peeves.. please, PLEASE, do NOT write "tag:" at any time. LOL I would hope that the other players are reading your messages well enough to recognize when they have an opportunity to interject or reply. Anyone caught using the word "Tag:" will be flogged.

Thats it. Pretty simple, huh? Here is an example to give you a better idea of what I mean.

Subject: (DunnsTalon) (Alamander) Chapter 5, Section 13

(Marissa old)
She dodged the attack that she had barely noticed and spun to face her attacker. Dammit theyre behind us! she shouted. Gripping her dagger in her right hand she reached out with her left hand to judge the distance between her and the cavern wall.

(DM old)
In the hallway, behind the party, three Alimur soldiers have dropped to the floor from above! One of them attacked Marissa with a wild slice as he dropped. The other two are flanking the first, slightly behind him. The cavern is just over six feet wide at this area, and at least ten feet high, not quite enough room for two people to fight side by side without risk of injuring each other.

(Alamander)
Three statues, coming up! he shouts, and then he whispers to himself I hope afterwards. He begins chanting and weaving his hands in an intricate pattern, ending in an over exaggerated thrusting forward of his hands towards the Alimur scum.

// Im casting Hold Person on the baddie by Marissa and hoping it affects the others as well. If the spell holds them, then Im going to get out of the way and let the warrior-types do the dirty work. If not then Ill use my sling to attack any that arent immobile. If any of them look like theyre going to get close to me Ill drop Mirror Image on my self and switch to my dagger! //
