Eric Idle

March 29, 1943 -

Early Life:  Eric was born in Harton Hospital, South Sheilds, England.  His father was in the Royal Air Force and died in 1945, which may be why Eric is so funny: he used humor to hide the pain.  Because of his father's death he was sent away to a "semi-orphanage."

Education: Royal School, Wolverhampton boarding school was the "semi-orphanage" which he was sent to at the age of seven.  He later went to Pemstroke College and then Cambridge University (in 1962) where he majored in English.  Here he, like John Cleese and Graham Chapman, became a part of the Footlights, and was even voted in as the Footlights president.
