Johan's 1986 Mercedes-Benz
230E (W124)

This would rival our 350SE's 'sariwa' (freshness) factor. The still had its original factory paint, ultra clean tan MB-TEX interior, the OEM steering wheel and shift knob still had its grain, and all the interior switches have their icons intact. (It is common for Mercedes-Benz's from this era to have the switch icons rubbed off.) The odometer registered 43,000 kilometers -- seems accurate based on the condition of the car.
The car has a 2.3 liter M102 fuel injected engine, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. Power Steering, Power Windows. No sunroof = no leaks. No central locking = no vacuum leaks. The car rolled on a set of replica 8-hole alloys (aka Type-3, MB3, Benz3) from an S-class when I got it.
The only obvious fault this car had was the fact that the front and rear bumpers were severely cracked and damaged - doesn't seem like a fender-bender caused it, more like sun damaged. The rear bumper had a huge portion missing. There were some minor rusted areas and some dings. But it still had original paint, so somehow the faults were forgivable. The previous owner had installed lowering springs, but have purchased and installed new coil-springs prior to the sale. The car sat quite high and my guess is that the springs were for a 260E or a 300E.
My W124 ownership was short-lived. Certain circumstances had made it necessary for me to let this car go. In its place, I got my first taste of Mitsubishi in the form of a beautiful Galant GTi-16V and some cash. This W124 is now in better hands.
