Software Agents
Software agent, can be described as a flexible system, capable of dynamic, autonomous actions, in order to meet its design objectives, that is situated in some environment.

The main features of software agents are: situatedness, that is the ability to perform actions according to a particular input received from outside, which can turn, change the environmental itself, autonomy in performing actions, without interventions of humans; flexibility and adapatability.  Some particular agents can also be pro-active, which means they are goal directed, and social, in the way they can interact with other agents, robots, and humans.  Such intelligent agent, can be referred to as Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) one.
