4.18: The One With All The Haste

The time comes for Emily to go back to England, but Ross doesn't want her to leave. Against everyone's advice, and even though they haven't known each other long, the two of them consider getting married. Meanwhile, Joey and Chandler are perfectly happy having traded apartments with the girls, but Rachel and Monica are miserable in the smaller place. They come up with a plan to bribe the guys with Knicks tickets, but when that doesn't accomplish anything, they end up taking their apartment back by force.

Just Cute
At the beginning of the episode, Chandler and Joey are hanging out in their 'new' apartment, watching a kung-fu movie together. Following the action, they're jerking around in their recliners in mock kung-fu moves. It's pretty cute.

Just Cute
Monica: Your bachelor pad? Have you even had a girl up here?
Chandler: No. (elbows Joey) But, uh, Joey has, and I usually talk to them in the morning time.
(Joey puts an arm around Chandler and pats his arm protectively)
Joey: Yeah you do!
Just Cute
Monica and Rachel offer the guys excellent Knicks tickets in exchange for their apartment, but Chandler refuses to make the trade. That is, until Joey turns on the charm.
Joey: Come on, man. You know I'd do it for you! Because (poking him in the chest) you're my best friend.
Chandler: (rolls his eyes) All right, but you can't use that again for a whole year.
And this is all it took from Joey to convince him, when he was completely unwilling to do it before. It's a nice moment, and I might add, very different from the intimidation Monica uses in later seasons to get the same effect...

Just Cute
Okay, here's the really good stuff. The guys make a bet with Rachel and Monica that whoever draws the highest card from Phoebe's deck gets both the better apartment and the Knicks tickets. When Joey draws what they think is the high card, he and Chandler hug and jump up and down with joy. Then they stop to see why the girls are celebrating too, but Chandler still has his hand on Joey. And then when they pick the high card for the second time, they do it again! With the hugging, and the jumping...!

Slashy
Chandler and Joey are shocked to find that their apartments have been switched while they were out, and while Joey actually likes being back in their old place, Chandler refuses to give up. He tells Rachel and Monica that they'll switch the apartments again when the girls go to work. But instead, Monica and Rachel offer to kiss for one minute if they can keep their original apartments. And how could our femmeslash-obsessed boys turn that down? We don't get to see the kissing, but when Joey and Chandler get back to their apartment, they both declare that it was well worth it, say goodnight and return to their original bedrooms!

Overall
Well, I'm happy to report that Joey and Chandler are together throughout this whole episode, which gives it an automatic point. It's a lot like the good old second-season days, with all the touching and bantering and doing everything together. Sigh! So in conclusion, this is a pretty nice one, and it gets 3 out of 5 on the Joey/Chandler scale.
