4.10: The One With Phoebe's Uterus
Phoebe is shocked when her half-brother Frank Jr. and his wife ask her to carry their baby for them, since they're unable to conceive. Her friends and family are uncertain, but Phoebe becomes determined to do it. Meanwhile, Joey gets a job at the museum where Ross works, but he has trouble with the cliques among the workers there. And Chandler admits that he hasn't slept with Kathy yet, because, well...
Sexual Issues
Chandler claims at first that he wants his relationship with Kathy to grow before they have sex, but no one believes that. This is what he tells Ross, Rachel and Monica.
Chandler: No, you're right, I'm totally lying.
Monica: Then what is it?
Chandler: Well, Kathy's last boyfriend was Joey.
Ross: And you're afraid you won't be able to "fill his shoes."
Chandler: No, I'm afraid I won't be able to make love as well as him.
Ross: Yeah, I was going for the metaphor.
Chandler: And I was saying the actual words.
Yikes. It's not classically slashy, but there is something kind of kinky in all this, with Chandler and Joey sleeping with the same girl within days of each other. And then there's Chandler saying, "We share a wall! So either hes great in bed, or she just likes to agree with him a lot."
Just Cute
Just a little thing, and really the only time Joey and Chandler are in the same room. Joey comes in wearing a Donald Trump-style blazer and orange shirt, and Chandler actually seems to like it.
Sexual Issues
The girls finally pressure Chandler into having sex with Kathy, but he reports back that it wasn't great. Monica and Rachel decide to give Chandler some tips, and Monica draws a woman's body, labeling certain parts with numbers. She then starts describing good sex using the numbers, gets a little too caught up in it, and has this bizarre orgasmic thing speaking only in numbers. Chandler, however, is not turned on, he just looks freaked out. Understandably.
He Doesn't Love Her, Dammit!
If Chandler were really as obsessed with Kathy as he seemed, I think he would have jumped at any opportunity to get it on with her. But it seems their whole relationship has been more about Joey than anyone else. Oh, and Monica says to Chandler, "You're stupid." Surely that counts for something.
Overall
The guys really don't see each other much in this episode, although Chandler's ineptitude with women and the whole Twisted Love Triangle thing work in its favor. I'd give it a 2 out of 5 on the scale.
