The Collaborative Web Review

Our group was formed to investigate News Websites. We want to know not only what the websites are reporting, but how they are reporting . This site will investigate how easy it is to move through different news sites, the perspective that the News Organizations take, how well they report their stories, and how user friendly the different websites are. In order to conduct such an investigation our group has elected to divide each news site into four categories and rank them according to certain criteria within each category. Below is a discription of each site that was viewed, the categories is was ranked in, and how well it ranked in each category. For a more in-depth analysis of each category, click on the link provided.

The different News Sites that we choose to concentrate on are the following:

Al-Jazeera - This is a major news netwoork in the middle east. It is respected by Middle Eastern Nations such as Iraq, Egypt, and other Muslim nations as being forthcoming and honest in its broadcasting. Due to popular demand by the English speaking nations, Al-Jazeera'a decided to create an English version of their website.

CNN - The News Channel that Americans have come to love ever since the first Gulf War. It is known for its around the clock news coverage. After careful consideration of all the sites, our group agrees that this is site probably the most comfortable to Americans. It didn't have the highest rating overall, but it did come in second mainly due to its appeal to the American style broadcasting that the site displays so proudly.

Each of the sites were reviewed by an English Language Arts major from Eastern Michigan University. Resources were drawn from experts in each of the following disciplines. The criteria laid out for each area of writing was then compared to how well the websites followed these criteria. Each section will describe the criteria used and how well each of the sites did in the perspective area.
