Information provided by Marilyn Martin
There are more than 100 forms of arthritis, and these currently affect an estimated 40 million people. The chronic pain of arthritis can affect your sleep, appetite, ability to work, social activities and quality of life.

The soreness arises from inflamed or damaged joints; weakened or tense muscles, tendons and ligaments, or muscle spasms.

Chronic arthritis pain can be treated with:
  • A doctor-recommended over-the-counter medication or a prescription medication.
  • Heat or cold treatments.
  • Rest and relaxation, as needed, to reduce the stress in your life!
  • Exercises prescribed by a doctor or physical therapist.
  • Alternate pain management techniques such as deep breathing, disassociation, visualizing imagery, meditation, or self-hypnosis.

  • The U.S. Government invests about $3.00 per person annually on arthritis research in one's lifetime; a person can spend $150,000 for arthritic care and treatment. Check out www.arthritis.org for more information on arthritis from the Arthritis Foundation.
