I want to be a Builder


Below you will find the steps that you must complete for this project.

Step 1

Get with your group members and decide how the simple machines you researched would fit into an actual automobile.

Example: The mouse trap spring functions as a motor because it provides the car with its needed energy.
AS THE CHIEF ENGINEER, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE THE FINAL CHOICES AS TO HOW THE SIMPLE MACHINES are USED IN THE MOUSE TRAP VEHICLE. YOU WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THESE DECISIONS.

It will ultimately be the Engineers final decision on how the simple machines are used

Have the REPORTER record all the information for this step and steps 2 and 3.

Step 2

You will continue with step 1 until the following simple machines have been used:
These include:  lever, screw, wheel and axle, wedge, and pulley

Step 3

Together, give your car a name:  This name should reflect your groups personality.  

 

The REPORTER will also record this information.

Step 4

Once you have decided on placement of the simple machines in the automobile , you will begin the final drawing. SKETCH EVERYTHING INCLUDING EXTRAS.
It is this that builders will use to put together the vehicle. You can find the requirements below.

Step 4

It is your responsibility to construct the mousetrap car. You will not be able to begin construction until the engineer has done his/her job first.

ATTENTION!!It is important that the other car builder in your group be someone with whom you can work well with. You will need access to each other after school and on weekends. The construction of the car will take place at one of your homes and then brought in on the due date.

You will use the engineer's sketch to build the mousetrap car. If your car does not match the sketch then YOU AND ONLY YOU will lose points.

2. The car must be built following the engineer's sketch.

3. All simple machines must be included.

4. The simple machines should be labeled with a flag.

For each day late minus 5 points until you reach zero points.
