There seems to be some confusion as to the life of Isaac H Schenck, son of Albert Gerretse Schenck, and his cousin Isaac Schenck, son of John Schenck (of Revolutionary War fame). I have made attempts, as listed here, to try to clarify the lives of both men. This web page focuses on Isaac H Schenck, born 1778, Christened 18 July 1778 at Dutch Reform Church, Monmouth Co, Nj.

Name: ISAAC SCHENCK Company: 108 REG'T (BRITAIN'S), NEW YORK MILITIA. Rank - Induction: PRIVATE Rank - Discharge: PRIVATE Roll Box: 184 Roll Exct: 602
The 108th Regiment, New York State Militia was from Jefferson Co. (cf. Military Minutes of the Council of Appointment of the State of New York.
The above information indicates that an Isaac H Schenck fought in the War of 1812 in the 108th NY Militia. This Militia was started in Jefferson Co, NY. It would also appear this Isaac Schenck was granted bounty lands in Mercer Co, Illinois for losses suffered during the war. At the time the losses were filed this Isaac Schenck was living in Lafayette, Onondaga County, NY.
Geneology records indicate Isaac Schenck, son of Albert Gerretse Schenck and (potentially) Ruth Anne Knox, had one son, Samuel Schenck, born about 1798.
1850 census:
I find an Isaac Schenck, born abt 1776 (NJ), in Mount Vernon, Jefferson Co, Illinois. He is living with his son Samuel Schenck, Samuel's second wife, their child, his children from a first wife and her children from a first marriage. Samuel's dob is about 1798 and place is given as NJ.
The oldest daughter of Samuel Schenck (The oldest I know of) is Hearty Schenck. Her date of birth from her husband's biography is given as 9 July 1825. Place of birth (according to census records) is New York. This follows as his 2 youngest children, born 1839 and 1843, are listed as being born in Illinois. I find Samuel Schenck in the 1840 census in Mount Vernon, Jefferson Co, Illinois, so it appears the 2 younger children were born in Illinois.
Looking at the 1820 census I found an Isaac Schenck in Owasco, Cayuga Co, NY. His age, as given, is between 26 and 45. There are no male children, 3 female children under 10 years, and 1 female 26-45. This Isaac appears to be closer to Isaac Schenck, son of John Schenck.
There is also the other Isaac Schenck in Oneida Co. This one I would guess to be Isaac H. by looking at the household numbers: 1 male under 10, 1 male 16-26 (Samuel?), 1 male 45-up (Isaac?), 2 females 10-16, 1 female 16-26, 1 female 26-45. one person engaged in agriculture (Isaac?), one engaged in manufacturing (Samuel was a carpenter by trade).
So here's what appears to have happened to Isaac H. Schenck, son of Albert Gerretse Schenck:
Sometime after the birth of Samuel (about 1798) and before the War of 1812 Isaac moved from Monmouth, NJ to Lafayette, NY. He joined the War at with the closest Militia, which would have been Jefferson Co. After the War he was given land in Mercer Co, Illinois. The family, however, didn't move to Illinois until after 1825, because Samuel's oldest daughter was born in NY. They moved to Mount Vernon by 1840.
All of this would be consistant to show that Isaac Schenck, veteren of the War of 1812, would be Isaac H. Schenck, son of Albert Gerretse Schenck. This would also be consistant to show that this same Isaac Schenck would be the most likely of the 2 Isaacs to be the person that died in Streater, La Salle Co, Illinois in 1856, as we know he was alive as late as 1850. The other Isaac, son of John, appears to have died by 1830.
