| Front Clip Off | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After getting Jimbo's approval I wasted no time ripping the front clip off and hauling that engine and tranny out. Of course It was much MUCH harder then "ripping" off the sheet metal. Not to mention I couldn't have ever done it myself... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This was a really hard procedure, and you never really think that that many blots hold the friggin clip on. Not to mention half of them are frozen and either break or are free-spinning. I had my diagram of the front sheet metal dissassembly from my restoration guide. But that really helped little. I guess theres too many bolts to list, any ways... To start things off i got a 12 pack of mountain dew and got to work bright and early. 8 is too early for a friday morning... When dismanteling the front clip the bumper comes off first. 4 bolts, 2 nuts on the rivets. i got that down but one of the bolts broke and was stuck. However the bolt was in a tuff spot and i couldnt get at it with the "zall" and attacked it with a hand saw Ryan Sevrence and Gordon Dunn came over later to help. We accomplished allot that day and only had a few more bolts left. Much appreciation to the both of them for giving up their day and helping me work on my car. The next day Me and my dad took a few bolts out and the whole thing fell off. |

| The biggest problem we encountered was the self sealing bolts that were all over the fenders. The official term is J clips but id like to call them jack*** clips!! From the factory the nuts were just welded onto the fender or wheel well. Over 34 years, they of course did not hold. Surprizingly none of the bolts stripped, thats probly because Ryan, Gordon and I have so such mechanical skillz. |
