Interrior Removal
We gotta make THIS ----
Look like THIS ----
Heres how it's done..
First, I took out the front bucket seats and moved them right into storage for later, so they wouldn't get in the way. Space is key in a restoration. With the front buckets gone it was allot easyer to move around. Next I took the console out. There are 2 bolts holding it in. One under the ashtray and the other you need to remove the shift plate to get at. Unfortunaly the were spinning on the other side and I had to crawl under there and get the vise grips.
front seats removed
With the console out the door sill plates had to be removed, being carful not to strip the bolts or damage the expensive sill. After all that the carpet pulled right right out. After that The back seat came out no problem, There are hooks that hold the bottom half in. To remove it you need to push the frame of the seat inward and it should pop right out. after the bottom half is out you can clearly see the bolts holding the top half on. For the convertable they have hooks at the top and after you take the bolts out just push it up and its out.
Its getting awfully empty in there...
I then removed the glove box, and to get at the screws its really a big P.I.T.A. The glovebox liner is made out of cardboard and the old one was moldy so i just took the razor knife and cut it out. a new liner retails for about 10 bucks, so save yourself the aggrivation.
As you can see I removed the door panels on one side.
If your car has been sitting as long as mine, the door panels are all moldy and warped, the window felts are all cracked and its not even worth it to save the chrome bars. However the camaro emblems on the standard interrior should be saved. you can accually but preassembled door panels for about 150 both front and back.
The dash and ashtray had to come out next. It took me a good ammount of time to remove all the mess of wireing. But a weekend later, everything was disconnected and LABELED with tabe and a sharpie.
It is SOOO important to label EVERYTHING!
