Civil War Generals 2 Tournament Rating System

Gents we have decided to use the USCF rating systems for out tourneys a brief explanation is listed below. and implementation procedure will be added later.

The most difficult aspect of conducting an online CWG2 tournament is the seeding of the players. To remove this obstacle we feel it is necessary to introduce a tournament rating system. In the future, tournaments will be much easier to run and that should equate into more tournaments for the players enjoyment

The most widely used rating system is the Elo rating system. It is used throughout the world in chess and many other forms of competition. Go to http://www.vog.ru/elo.asp for a excellent explanation complete with examples of the formulas used. Type in "Elo Rating system" on an internet search engine and you will get an idea about just how extensive and popular this system is. The Elo system will be the basis for our system.

The catch to all this is we need to start somewhere with this system. This will take some work and we really need your help in this. We must all convert our won "Skill Level" over to the CWG2 tournament rating system. Begin to think about your skill level...are you Intermediate...if so...are you high, middle or low intermediate? After the sign up period you will all receive a mailing asking you to assess yourself and any other players that you wish to assess. You will be asked to vote for trusted players to comprise a CWG2 rating review board who will oversee this difficult conversion process. Below is the won skill level conversion table for you to study and start thinking about.

Won Skill Level Conversion Table

Guru..............2100-2500

Advanced......1900-2099

Intermediate...1400-1899

Novice...........1200-1399

Example: say you are a high intermediate...consider a rating in the 1800...perhaps 1875.You don't need to agonize over this too much as this is only a starting estimate of your skill. Your performance in tournaments will cause your rating to move up or down until it reflects your relative ability.

Below is a table showing the new CWG2 tournament classifications based on the Elo/CWG2 rating system CWG2 Tournament Classification Table

Senior Master...2400-plus

Master.............2200-2399

Expert.............2000-2199

Class A...........1800-1999

Class B...........1600-1799

Class C...........1400-1599

Class D...........1200-1399

In any of our tournaments class championships will be awarded in the bottom 5 classes. The Masters and Senior Masters are expected to be playing for the top spots and no further awards will be given.

Far more information on this and other issues will be forthcoming in the Tournament Newsletters
