Joerg's Photo Album 2003 - 2004

I lived in Santa Clara and San Jose, California from August 25th, 1999 until December 21st 2004. In June 2003, I purchased my digital camera. Here are brief trip reports and photos of my outdoor activities in 2003 and 2004.

Day Hiking

I used to be a regular with the day hiking section of my local Sierra Club chapter.

The first row shows photos of a hike in the bay area. The second row is a peak climb in July 2003 in Yosemite National Park. The shots in the third row are from a trans-sierra hike where we traversed the Sierra in a single day from east to west in September 2003.

Backpacking

Since 2002, I have backpacked in the Bay area as well as in the Sierras and one time even at the coast.

The first three pictures were taken during a 3-day backpacking trip with the Stanford Outing Club at the Lost Coast in July 2003. The forth and fifth photos were taken on the 2003 Labor Day weekend in the Trinity Alps. The next two shots show a peak climb of Mount Baldwin with the Sierra Club in June 2004. The last two ones were taken in the Ventana Wilderness east of Big Sur.

Rock Climbing

After climbing for 6 months twice weekly in the gym, I took an outdoor climbing class at Red Rocks, Nevada in April 2003. The first two pictures were taken during this class. The third one was taken at the Pinnacles National Monument in November 2005. The following four shots are from October 2003 in the Tuolumne region of Yosemite National Park. The last two photos were taken in Yosemite Valley in May 2004.

Trekking in the Andes

In June 2004, I joined a three-week long trek in Peru. Initially staying in Huaraz at 3000 meters, we acclimatized to the altitude with day hikes in the Cordillera Blanca, then did the 11-day Huayhuash trek and finally climbed the Nevado Pisco in the Cordillera Blanca.

Sailing

In August 2004, I got into dinghy sailing on Shoreline Lake in Mountain View. I am taking classes towards bareboat charter on Monterey bay. A week-long trip from San Francisco to San Diego in September 2004 was my longest sailing trip so far. The first five pictures were taken on this trip to San Diego. The remaining shots were taken in October 2004 while an unseasonally early rain storm was approaching.

Kayaking

These photos were taken during a kayaking trip with the Stanford Outing Club in April, 2003. We paddled over Tomales Bay to Point Reyes National Seashore where we camped on a remote beach which is not accessible from land.
