Boston NYE 1998
by: Lori Albers
This was a great trip. I went on this trip through AF1. It was very well organized. A local radio station was having a food drive and if you donated a certain amount of food you could meet every member of Aerosmith after the NYE show. So of course we did it. We stood in line for two and a half hours in the bitter Boston cold. So did a lot of others. We went to the show.

Steven's wife's twin was sitting behind us. We got about 10th row for this show. It was a great show. It opened by them and a few firefighters dressed in firefighter outfits and they came to the stage through the audience and the thing was, we didn't know who was actually a band member or not. Then they got onstage, took their outfits off and started playing. It was SO awesome.

At midnight, the band's family members got onstage and stars and balloons fell from the ceiling. Then they broke into "Mama Kin." What a great song to hear right after midnight. Then after the show everyone with passes had to move to the side and wait. And wait....then finally they said Aerosmith was ready. We all got in line and the five of them were standing behind cafeteria type tables. Brad was the first you saw when you came in the room. He was wonderful. I wanted to thank him for sending me backstage passes the previous year, but I couldn't say anything. I just stared at him as he shook my hand. Then there was Tom, remember his birthday is Dec. 31. I happened to dress up for NYE and he commented on that and I told him "That's how we do it in Kansas City." I should have told him it was for his birthday, but my wits weren't about me at the time. Then there was Joey. He looked great, he had a green suit that since then I've seen him wear and it brings back memories. Then there was Steven. He shook my hand and we talked. My boyfriend told him I was the person in Kansas City who sent him roses and being the person Steven is, he went along and acted like he remembered which I was sure at the time he didn't.

And we talked a little and I hated leaving him but we had to move on. Joe was next and was his usual quiet self. I think he said "How ya doin'?" That's about it. Then we had to leave. The trains had already quit, I think they stop around 2:30 or something like that. And you think NYE the cabs would have still been going, but every time we saw one he had his light out and was on his way home and wouldn't stop for us. So we didn't even know where our hotel was exactly. The AF1 bus had left after the show and we didn't even care. Nothing was going to stop me from meeting the guys even if I had to crawl back. It was so bitterly cold. I had a dress on and high heels. It was a miserable one hour walk back but we finally did find our way back. If we knew our way I think it would have only taken 15 minutes!!! The next night was a party at Mama Kin's where thier tribute band "Draw the Line" was. At around 10:30pm I think they got on the phone and called Steven. They put it on microphone and Steven wished everyone a Happy New Year. He was so awesome.

The next night was Worcester. The seating there was a bit odd. You had people there to help you find your seats because it wasn't very clear. We actually had second row seats, but the guy sat us in first row. Well I knew eventually someone would come to claim these seats and about two minutes before show time, sure enough here comes a man and a woman so I went up to the stage and started a conversation with the security guy and just stayed there until the guys came out on stage. I didn't move at all either, stayed right there. Mia, Steven's daughter, was standing right in front of us in between the guard rail and the stage. She staye there for a good part of the show. Steven was so great on this show. I had earlier been to their place Mount Blue and got a sweatshirt that said that on the front of it. I think he liked that cuz he reached down to me during "What it Takes", where it says "for thinking twice", he held two fingers down to me and our fingers interlocked. It was so cool. Then during "Eat the Rich" he held the mic down to us four times during the end where it keeps repeating "eat the rich". He sure knows how to make my night. If I had to pick my five best nights, Aerosmith made 3 of them possible and my two daughters made the other two when they were born. In my life, Aerosmith is right behind my family. I love and obsess over them. I really think things happen for a reason. I think the reason I've been blessed with meeting them like that is I am a true fan and have been for years. I eat, sleep, and drink these guys. They have incredible talent, personalities, and charisma, all of them. God, if I had half the talent I'd be happy. I just got a harmonica and have been practicing. I would love to play an Aerosmith tune some day.
