Nine Lives Tour 1998
by: Lori Albers
I was on my way home from work on a Friday and on the radio station I heard them say they were giving away tickets to the Aerosmith show for that Sunday. I already had my tickets reserved through AF1 but you're never sure of your seats, so I thought why not. Got to the bar where they were giving them away and they said they were front row tickets. The crowd there were there for the after work happy hour. I think I was the only one there just for the tickets, so I put my name in the box 15 times and folded the paper so it would stick up when they went to draw the name. I was talking to my boyfriend at the time and he gave me $100 to go and bribe the DJ so I went up there and he said he'd love to take the money but couldn't. So later he drew the name and it happened to be mine. I ran straight up there and it was live on air. The DJ asked me if he could tell the story of how I tried to bribe him and I told him yes. Anyway, I was thrilled. (That's an understatement!)

The next day was the Kansas City Art Fair on the Plaza. I had a horrible headache and my boyfriend's brother called and asked if we wanted to go. I didn't feel like it, but went. I told them on the way it would be cool if Aerosmith was staying at the Ritz across the street from the Plaza and that they would be at the fair. Well we were walking along and there he was, I stood still in shock and I said, "Oh my god, there he is." They go "Who?" I just stared. Steven and Joey were there with Big Mike. Steven had plaid pants, white t-shirt with psychadelic printing on it. Hair messed up and no make-up, and still looking wonderful. We walked up to them. Steven was on his cell phone looking at some art and thumbing through his credit cards. I was standing about 5 feet from him, just staring. He had a button on his shirt that said "I don't want to kiss your thing." I thought that was so funny. Joey was standing to the side and we went over to him and he said "Hi" to my 8-year old daughter. She acted like "Big deal." We told Joey that we had front row tickets for tomorrow night's show and he said "Good, we'll see ya there." So we walked on. I can't believe I just walked on.

On the way home we started talking about it all. We came up with a plan. We decided to go to the Ritz across the street and hint around to see if they were staying there. Sure enough, they were. So we started thinking. I had been a fan at this time for 23 years. So I got 23 roses, wrote out a letter to Steven on letter paper I made with the  "Draw The Line" album on it, and wrote to him how I was a fan for so long and what I admired about him. I told him there were 23 roses, one for every year I'd been a fan and that I would be holding the 24th rose in the front row. It took some cash to get the guy at the hotel past Big Mike, but we did it.
