| I love to hear the band jam in the studio, even if I have to stay up way into the wee hours of the morning, it's great. My dad used to be a roadie for them but had to quit because he had gotten cancer. However, my dad still remained friends with the band and I often got the privilege to hang around with them in the studio. I laid my head on a table and listened to Joe's wailing solo. I had just closed my eyes when... There was the sound of a string breaking. "God damn!" Joe yelled. The band quickly stopped playing as Joe went to get another guitar. "Fuckin' cheap new strings..." he mumbled as he grabbed the one sitting right next to me. "Having trouble with the new strings I bought?" I said. Joe just glared at me. I used the exact same strings but I didn't play as hard as him. "Sorry if I ruined your night!" I yelled. I smiled at him and his frown slowly disappeared. "Okay are we ready to try again?" Steven asked. Joe nodded and they ran completely through the new number. It had no lyrics or even a title, but it was a rocker. It just had this drive to it. The guitar parts on it wailed, I'm a big guitar sound person. This was way better than thier last hit, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing." I jumped up to appluad. "Yeah! Encore! Encore BABY!" Tom looked over at me and smiled, I blushed badly. My face was probably as red as the guitar Brad was playing. "You need to get home, Kylie, it's 3:00 am." said Tom. Everyone else looked in my direction anxiously as if they were just jumping to get rid of me. "I'll take you home." Tom took off his bass and went to get his jacket. I put on my purple sweatshirt, not warm enough for the 20 degree weather. "Bye guys!" I said quietly. There were scattered "Bye Kylie. See you tomorrow." coming from them. I quickly made a dart for the door. I came to Tom's car and pulled on the handle - locked. I had always wanted a car like his - a red Ferrari. I could image me and him cruisin' around in Miami or some place like that in the summertime. Just riding down the beach, wind in my hair, the waves on the beack...A sharp cold wind blew me back to reality. I breathed out through my mouth and watched my breath. "You need to get a jacket!" Tom yelled from behind, scaring the hell out of me. "I'd hate to see you in the hospital with pnemonia." Tom was always over protective of me, almost like I was one of his kids. He unlocked my door and opened it for me. I climbed in and he shut the door. I watched him as he unlocked his door. Tom got in and quickly started up the car. He rubbed his hands together quickly and turned up the heat. A hot blast of air hit me in the face. He smiled at me and moved his hair out of his eyes. "It's cold out, isn't it?" Tom said with a laugh. "Yeah it is." I replied. I put my hood over my head and settled back into the seat as Tom took off. I watched the trees zoom by as we drove through a little wood area of the highway. There were no street lights so Tom had to turn his brights on. I listened to the radio as it gave the weather report for the day. A man with a very nasily voice said, "Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow, we will be expecting eight inches of snow, sleet, 30-35 mile per hour winds, and a temperature of negative ten degrees Fahrenheit." I shivered in my seat. "Damn!" yelled Tom. "I'd hate to be caught in that, wouldn't you?" He glanced at me and smiled. "No, I wouldn't." I squeaked. 'Dammit!' I thought, 'why do I let him mold me like a piece of clay?' I had developed a crush on him over the past few months from just hanging around in the studio. Okay for me what wasn't there to like about him? His hair was perfect. His eyes were perfect. He has a great smile, a great sense of humor, good music taste. He even speaks some French! He was better than any teen idol out there to me. My heart would just pound in my chest and I was glad I wore rougue, or else he would see how red my face would get when he just smiled or even said hi to me. He just had something, I don't know what it is, but I wish my ex-boyfriends had it. I thought to myself, 'Cute, I'm 18 and he's 48. Mom and Dad will have a laugh at this.' "I knew I shouldn't have taken this way." Tom mumbled. "Snow and ice all over the road. I figured we'd save time taking the short cut." He pushed a button on his radio to see the clock. It was 3:45. "This road is so dangerous you think they would have treated it by-" Tom started to mumble again when we hit a patch of ice. The car swerved and I about had a heart attack. He pulled the car over to the side of the road. He put it into park and leaned his head back on the seat. "Holy shit!" He gasped. "We came like two feet from going over into the ravine!" "Didn't need to tell me that Tom!" I yelled. I was getting upset now and started to cry. "Oh come on Kylie..." he soothed. I had to lay my head on his shoulder and he patted my back. "Calm down now. It's over, we're okay." I went back over to my side of the car. Tom pulled back onto the road and proceeded to do ten miles per hour the rest of the way. I decided to get some sleep since it was going to take him an hour to get me home. "Runnin with the Pack" by Bad Company came on the radio as I drifted to sleep. Tom sang along quietly, I felt like I was being lulled to sleep. My slumber didn't last long though, not long after that I felt a bump in the road. I heard a skidding noise. "SHIT!" Tom yelled. He grabbed my shoulder. "Kylie hold on!" I had no clue what was going on. I felt the car slide off the road and then it started to tumble. I felt my head hit the roof and after that it was lights out. I have no idea how long I was out. When I came to I felt someone taking a cloth to the side of my head. Then I felt a stinging sensation, I gave a little noise and opened my eyes. "You're okay!" Tom said. I saw he had a first aid kit at his side. "You're pretty cut up on your face and your right hand." I looked at him, he had a cut in his right cheek and it had blood trickling from it. I wiped the blood off his face with the sleeve of my sweatshirt. "You're bleeding too." I faintly whispered. "I'm okay." Tom replied and he poured a little more liquid onto the cloth and put it to my right hand. It stung and I groaned. "You don't have broken bones or anything, do you?" He helped me up, "Try to walk" he said. I limped a little bit and sat down. I pulled up my left pants leg and there was a huge bruise on it. I panicked. "Where are we? What happened? Where's the car?" I began to cry. "Calm down Kylie!" Tom said and came over. He sat down beside me and said "The car flipped over a couple of times after we slid off the road. It's not far from here. I just found this cave." I sat silent for a second and then said "Mom was right about wearing a seatbelt. I'm glad I listened for once." Tom just looked at me and shook his head. "So you're ok?" he said. I gave him a weak smile. Tom got up and zipped up his jacket. I watched him walk to the front of the cave, it was daylight. "I'm gonna go into town and get some help. You stay there, I shouldn't be more than an hour or two, it's not that far off. But, in this kind of weather you never know." He handed me a blanket and a bottle of water. "Wow, you're prepared." I said. "You don't keep an emergancy kit in your car?" Tom asked. "You never know when you're going to break down...or crash." He put the hood of his jacket over his head and said "Hey, if you learned anything about making a fire in girl scouts or something like that, there's a big pile of sticks by the car. They look dry. See ya later Kylie." "Bye Tom." I yelled as I watched him dissappear as he walked in the swirling snow. |
