Some of My Interests:

My family is my top interest and priority. Raising a child is a constant opportunity and challenge.

My son Christopher Paris is a constant joy in the world and especially in my life. Thank you, CParis !

  1. Education, Politics, Storytelling, and Journalism have been my career interests. It's amazing to me how closely they are linked to one another, and in fact all four could come under the term "Storytelling." I have worked in one of these four fields my entire professional life.

Check out my Speech Classes' Homepage!

    1. I have taught at several high schools and universities in Texas and Louisiana. I am very proud that many of my college courses were totally paperless! (even the midterm and final exams and gradebook). My extraordinary students handed in all of their assignments via email! I am convinced that this is the direction education is heading.

  2. Politics creates the world we live in, for good or bad. It is one of my many passions. I started off walking door to door in my hometown and gradually worked my way up to designing and managing parts of several campaigns, including successful ones for Governor, United States Congressman (two different ones, one of which I managed and designed from start to finish), U.S. Senator, State District Judge, State Senator, State Representative, Mayor, City Councilman at Large, and several others.

I have participated in every facet of a campaign, from the

    1. Retail Politics (attending events like debates, speaking at civic clubs, fairs & festivals, walking door-to-door)
    2. Wholesale Politics (Mass media use, targeted mailouts, Internet)
    3. Administrative Politics: Overall strategy, fund-raising (the job nobody likes), volunteer recruitment, and design and management.

It's exhilerating! And I have enjoyed this (since it's seasonal) for more than 35+ years now! (I started young!)

Politics, if done with integrity and enthusiasm (the way to do everything) is a rewarding pursuit. As we all know, there is a dark side, but that can be avoided by doggedly adhering to integrity and enthusiasm in forming our political habits.

  3. Want to get me really excited? Then say "let's dance!" Dancing is one of my favorite pastimes. I teach Cajun dancing whenever I find interested students (just ask me!), and love to learn new kinds of dances whenever I have the chance (just teach me!).

I find dance exhilerating on every level: physical, intellectual, spiritual, emotional. Very few pastimes combine all of these things so beautifully. Allons dancer! (Let's dance!)

  4. Invite me to your kitchen so I can cook you something from my Cajun cooking heritage. I enjoy creating & sharing beautifully prepared meals with folks, such as Gumbo, Etoufee, and Jambalaya!

  5. I love baseball. The toughest skill in sports, they say, is hitting a baseball. My father, who could hit a baseball with the best in the world during his 20s, played in the Brooklyn (now Los Angeles) Dodger organization in the late 40s and appeared on the cover of LIFE magazine on April 5, 1948, as a Dodger rookie! He was a southpaw pitcher and First Baseman. He was born in 1925, and still tops my list of admired persons. Love you, Dad.

  6. Growing roses and also irises as My Cajun Grandmother Lillian did, is a passion of mine. This one's for you, Grandma:

Lillian lived a full, wonderful life and even saw two passes of Halley's Comet (1910 & 1985), just as Mark Twain did! (1835 & 1910) She died in 1993 at 83. I think about her every day. I miss her. A lot.

  7. I love to read and write, especially poetry.

This love of reading I acquired from my mother Jane Alice, who was a librarian. After a lengthy illness, she recently died. Here is her [obituary] Mom will continue to influence me for the rest of my life.

Mom felt that people should write more poems & love letters, don't you agree ? Maybe this email technology will bring back the written word in interpersonal communications!

SHAKESPEARE ranks high on my personal list of most admired writers. When you are stuck for how to say something you feel, consult the bard. He was able to master both fiction and poetry, no small feat.

  8. I love The Beatles. Their songs perfectly expressed every emotion I had while growing up. Come to think of it, they still do. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Can you believe it's been more than 40 years since they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show !?!

  9. I love watching movies, especially epics and small. personal, character films. I consider moviemaking the principle art form of the 20th century, and plan to make a few small, personal movies before my time's up !

  10. Acting & the Theatre rank high upon my list of interests. Interpreting great literature is a kick in the pants for all concerned: the actors, director, and especially the audience.

  11. STORYTELLING is very important to me. My CAJUN culture is full of good storytellers. In fact, my grandfather Joseph was a fine teller, as was Grandma Lillian, Uncle Mose, My Dad, and many other relatives and friends with whom I grew up ! Share a favorite story of yours with me! You may enjoy visiting my storytelling homepage.

  12. I find TAROT interesting and fun as entertainment and folklore.

  13. If you've never read the NEW YORK TIMES newspaper, then you are really missing an enriching experience. It's a liberal education in itself. The web version is nice, but the real thing is awesome.

I have worked for several newspapers, magazines, television stations, and radio stations as a writer/reporter/photographer, and found journalism to be a stimulating and challenging field, fun of fun and opportunity and great responsibility.

Journalism has definitely opened many doors for me that I would otherwise not have walked through. Here are some of my award-winning columns, and here is my set of blogs. Enjoy !

  14. NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO (NPR) is a treasure. I enjoy the two news shows (Morning Edition and All Things Considered) and many of the other programs (A Prairie Home Companion, American Routes, Thistle & Shamrock, World Cafe, Acoustic Hour, Raoul Breaux's Blues Box Fridays from 9am-1pm (Central Time USA) on KRVS 88.7 in Southwest Louisiana and of course all of the classical music offered throughout the day and night. NPR is a constant and welcome companion.

  15. Here's THE WEATHER RADAR FOR THE USA. I love meteorology, and really enjoyed working as a TV reporter & weatherman on ABC TV3 KATC and CBS Channel 10 KLFY in Lafayette, LA, and CBS Channel 9 - WAFB in Baton Rouge.

  16. Check out The Web Ring. It's way of organizing internet information is the best I've seen. Almost as good is The Mining Company. Here are some ONLINE MAGAZINES you might enjoy! And here is a great place to download shareware, which is free.

  17. I spend as much time as I can in the great outdoors: Here are some places to go and things to do:
