| Madden vs Derrynoose Despite the absence of star players Shane Mc Cusker and Jailbreaker Smith, who were receiving intense "treatment" on the Malone Road that evening, Maddden's huge panel of B players assembled at Raparee Park yesterday afternoon. Aidy Hughes was up for the match as he was seen firing his bag towards the direction of the changing rooms from about 30 feet. The lesser panel of 13 Derrynoose men assembled in the away dressing room and a game was on the cards with Madden's star players Ricky, John Monaghan, and future Allstar Dodi going on loan to Derrynoose for the evening. It took a while for some of these players to adjust to the new set up, with dodi still passing to the red team as he has done for years. The first half was one sided with Stevey Smith goaling for the home team, and fine points from Philly Smith, Big Mac and Beavis maybe. The second half saw the introduction of two new players, Two times Ulster Interfirms winner Vincent Mc Cusker for Madden and Kyle Morgan for Derrynoose. Kyle too took a while to adjust to the new set up of passing to players in blue and white, Beavis may have been more suited to this role. Madden finished the game as a contest with a goal from Big Mac, still sporting his la manga tan. Derrynoose came back into it in the second half with Ricky moving into midfield feeding star forwards John Monaghan, Kyle and Mattie Ford ,,,i mean Dodi. Kyle opted for a point when a goal was on, he must have felt bad scoring against the club who are paying part of his wages. It was then Madden unleashed secret weapon Aidy Hughes as an impact sub with ten minutes to go. This had the desired effect as the crowd rose to roar on Madden's first Olympic Athlete. And wouldn't you know it the first ball that came in Aidy rose to claim it. He jinked left and jinked right and sent the ball over the bar with brought on a huge roar from the crowd. Poetry in motion. It was then Dodi rose to claim the next ball , he jinked left, he jinked right , and sent the ball straight across the face of the goals. Micky Grimley will now be sweating for his place after failing to score. Hughes rose for the ball once again, he jinked right........he jinked right again and sent thel ball into the onrushing Philly Smith who punched to the net. This must have got the wind up Kyle Morgan who raced down the field and finished to the corner of the net, regardless of who was paying his wages. Micky Grimley failed to score. Man of the match award went to Aidy Hughes who refused to do a post match interview as RTE would not allow him to show his bottle of Energiser on TV. Paddy Mc Cusker scored a great goal .................... before the match. Micky Grimley failed to score. |
