Robert A. Heinlein

Robert Heinlein Robert Anson Heinlein was born on Sunday, July 7, 1907, in Butler, Missouri, to a family of seven children. He spent a lot of his childhood in Kansas City. Afterwards he attended the University of Missouri and the Naval Academy at Annapolis. After he graduated in 1929, he served in the Navy for five years. His first story was published in 1939, in the August issue of Astounding Science Fiction. That was the story, I grok, of his career as a writer. Then in 1948, he married Virginia Doris Gerstenfeld. By the time he started on my book, he had written Double Star and Starship Troopers, for both of which he got Hugo awards. My book was his third Hugo, and was a best seller twice, when the unabriged book came out in 1991. He received his last Hugo award for The Moon is a Harsh Mistress He died on May 8, 1988, again a Sunday.
