In
the name of God unseen, I Aaron Lewman of the county Of Iredell, state
Of North Carolina, being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed by
God, do this 22nd day of
February in the year of our Lord 1824 make and publish this my last
will and testament, in the manner following that is to say...
1st: I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Zadoc Lewman, one bay mare, and
her colt.
To James Jackson Lewman and William Alfred Lewman to be sold and equally
devided between
them the money I authorize my executors hereafter named, to put in
interest money until they become of age. I also give William Alfred one
heifer and her increase, which is to remain the care and possession of
Zadoc Lewman until the said Wm. A. arrives at the age of 21 years.
But if the increase should be so great as to being inconvenient to keep,
he the Said Zadoc Lewman may sell or kill to the use and benefit of the
family, but there must be at least one of the original stock, which he
the said Wm. A. must receive. I also give to Rebecca Evaline Lewman daughter
of Zadoc Lewman two sheep.
2nd: I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Rebecca Brazier, bedstead,
and bed clothes. I will that all the remainder of my personal estate be
sold to discharge my just debts, and if this should not be a suffiency
of that, then this remainder must be discharged from the proceeds of the
sale of my land. I further will that my land be sold and equally devided
in the following manner viz: One third to my grandson Zadoc Lewman my grandson,
which is to be laid out on the purchase of more land, or if he should prefer
it, my executors are hereby authorized to lay him off one third of my land
in a way which would not hinder the sale of the other two thirds the least.
And if it should all be sold then my executors will take the one third
and buy land to the amount of it for my grandson Zadoc Lewman, which land
in either case he is to hold possess use and inhabit during his natural
life, and at his decease, to be sold and equally devided between his children
lawfully begotten of his body. The other two thirds I give to be equally
devided between my child Sally Brazier and her children, also the children
of my son Moses Lewman. Viz: one third to Sally Brazier and her children
to be equally devided among them. The remaining and other one third to
be equally devided among the lawfully begotten children of my son Moses
Lewman. And all the property which may remain if any, to be sold and equally
devided between Zadoc Lewman, Sally Brazier, and the children of Moses
Lewman my son. I do further will that my executors notify my daughter Sally
Brazier and her children, and the children of Moses Lewman of my decease
and the legacy coming to them who may jointly receive the same after my
decease, or anyone of them may transmit to my executors with a certificate
of their being and a request to transmit his, her, or their proportion
or part of the
??????? to him, her or them, said on either of my executors the money
or legacy in a letter and depositing it in the Post Office, the certificate
of a witness to the fact shall be sufficient voucher and release from all
demands
from the said legatee or legator on the said executor or executors to my
estate and further the siad executors shall and or by this my will release
forever any claim or claims of anyone or more of the legators applying
as above and by my executors complying with the above conditions.
And I do hereby make and ordain my worthy friends, William I. Summers Esq.
and Dr. Aza Beall executors of this my last will and testament, my hand
and seal above written Signed, sealed, published. And declared by
the said Aaron Lewman testator, as his last will and testament, in the
presence of us who were present at the time of his signing and sealing
thereof.
