FIRST GENERATION

1.  Joseph Felix Grundy HARGIS was born on 20 Aug 1811 in Tennessee.  He died about 1884 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas.  1880 Census, Democrat, Baptist Wilhelmina says that Susan A. Hargis, married 24 Oct 1878 in Nacogdoches was a sister to Berry Fancher Hargis and that she married W. Henry Hodges, son of James T. Hodges and Mary Ann Crenshaw.  Mary Ann daughter of William H. Crenshaw of Sumpter Co., AL.

He was married to Nancy LAYTON (daughter of Kinsey LAYTON and Sarah BAILES) about 1838 in prob. Miss..  Nancy LAYTON was born in 1824 in Alabama.  She died before 1880 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas.  Joseph Felix Grundy HARGIS and Nancy LAYTON had the following children:

CRENSHAW2 was born on 22 Feb 1819 in NC.  He died on 31 Jan 1890.  Married first Teresa Pulman (Pullham) ca 1842, 2nd Nancy Ann Hodges ca 1848, 3rd Mary Ann Lawrence, 4th Mrs. Sarah D. Hargis Brister 11 Oct 1872.  Sarah C. HARGIS and Charles G. CRENSHAW had the following children:

3.  Henry Harrison HARGIS was born on 24 Sep 1842 in MS.  He died on 18 May 1913 in Attoyac, TX.

He was married to Lee Ann WASSON on 3 Jan 1866 in Claiborne Par., LA.  Lee Ann WASSON was born on 12 Aug 1846.  She died on 6 Feb 1920.  She was buried in Attoyac or Sacul.  Buried Attoyac according to family but Sacul according to Confederate Mortuary Warrant #4202.  To Texas in 1969  Henry Harrison HARGIS and Lee Ann WASSON had the following children:

He was married to Nancy Elizabeth BRITAIN (daughter of Thomas Jefferson BRITAIN and Susan OAKES) on 21 Dec 1871 in Nacogdoches Co., TX.  Nancy Elizabeth BRITAIN was born on 23 Jan 1853 in Claiborne Par., LA.  She died on 24 Dec 1882.  Died just before she was 30 when Wilhelmina Andrew's grandma's sister was a week old (Dec 23 1922? Swallowed a needle?

Check: Wilhelmina's letter about which daughter swallowed the needle.

He was married to Josephine Judson GREEN on 29 Nov 1876.  Richard A. HARGIS and Josephine Judson GREEN had the following children:

9.  Lucy Ann HARGIS was born on 14 Jan 1855 in Louisiana.  She died on 21 Nov 1924 in Nacogdoches Co., Texas.  She was buried in Pine Grove Cem., Nacogdoches Co., Texas.

She was married to Thomas Jefferson CRENSHAW (son of James William CRENSHAW and Sarah Ann LAVENDER) on 22 Dec 1872.6  Thomas Jefferson CRENSHAW was born on 17 Mar 1849 in AL.  He died on 24 Jan 1914 in Nacogdoches Co., TX.  Lucy Ann HARGIS and Thomas Jefferson CRENSHAW had the following children:

BRITAIN was born on 8 Apr 1855 in Claiborne Par., LA.  He died on 19 Mar 1943 in Ft. Worth.  Probably named Isaac after Grandfather Oakes. On 1890 Tax list.  Hannah Loy HARGIS and George I. BRITAIN had the following children:

27.  Jefferson Lee HARGIS was born on 24 Nov 1873.  He died on 7 Dec 1939.  He was buried in Swift Cem., Nacogdoches Co., TX.

He was married to Artie Missie ACREY.  Jefferson Lee HARGIS and Artie Missie ACREY had the following children:
