Q: The
modeling industry has really boomed over the past few years, but it's
still difficult to find articles on male supermodels like Joel West.
Can you tell me something about this [beautiful man]? A: Joel
West, 21, never planned to pursue a modeling career. He was discovered
at the Dairy Queen in the Minneapolis Mall of America while on a trip
with a church youth group. Last year, when he signed a contract to become
an exclusive Calvin Klein model, he became the highest-paid male model
in America, earning a reported seven figures. He has used his earnings
to buy a ranch in his hometown of Indianola, Iowa, where he spends his
time planting trees, hiking and riding his mountain bike. He still promotes
the Calvin Klein fragrance line, but Klein changes his underwear models
as often as he changes his underwear, and that part of West's contract
already has run out. Like many models-both male and female-West would
like to make the transition to acting. He recently signed with the William
Morris agency to audition for film roles… |
