
Ruth & Joe Anderson--)Ruth had 6 girls one of them passed away,
Georgia May. Joe moved his
family to Vicksburg after the depression. Joe worked as a Negro
Dutchman. Joe wanted to live in the delta while Ruth wanted to stay in
Vickburg, that ole anti-bellum slavery town that was a major battleground
in 1865. During the civil was General Ulysses Grant Grand army of
the
Potomac marched and beseiged Vicksburg for many months, big cannons
brought a tremendous amount of firepower upon the Slave holding rebels.
Vicksburg was a key port in controlling the was in the southern states,
so
important was Vicksburg that Grant said that without its capture the war
would have been lost and although 200,000 black soldiers fought for their
own freedom.
Ruth would take the children with her for a while and then later return
for a
different group to keep for a while. Aunt Baby Dee ironically came
back
and forth to the delta from St. Louis with Gene and Joe when ever she
was mad at her husband Eugene Evans.
