This bass is my baby! In my honest opinion, I have never played a bass that sounded better than a Kubicki. It has a VERY flexible tone range because it has passive AND active electronics. It also felt better to play than the other basses that I have tried out. This is because it is ergonomically designed to fit the contours of the human body.
I had a few custom features added on mine. The standard ex-factor bass (with the drop-"D") has 23 frets. Mine has an extra fret, giving me 24 frets (2-octave range), as well as a slanted cutaway in the body which gives me an angled access to the upper frets. To simply put it...I LOVE THIS BASS!!! Thank you Phil!!!
Other basses I use:
Carvin LB70 fretless bass

This is made of Koa and is has a gorgeous finish. It is my only bass with a neck-thru body (great sustain!!). Although it is an active bass, I try and keep the tones down to get a passive "natural" fretless sound.
Yamaha RBX 800A
This particular bass introduced me to the idea of "access angles" which I later used to customize my Kubicki. This makes it easier to finger the higher notes by the 24th fret. I put EMG pick-ups in it. The bass has a sleek design, and a very bright tone.
I have recently strung ith with strings that are tuned 1 octave higher and use it as a "piccolo bass". It sounds a lot like a regular guitar and it is opening new paths for creativity.
Washborn MB6 six string bass

This is the modified verion of the XB six-string, with a deeper cut in the body to reach the upper frets. Unfortunately...something terrible happened. THE NECK CRACKED!!!! Washburn DID NOT honor the so-called "lifetime warranty." As far as I am concerned, I would NOT recommend their guitars to anyone.
Carlo Robelli string bass

I FINALLY bought an upright. This bass has a carved solid spruce top, laminated maple sides, solid maple back, and the tone is just great. It is my first upright that I ever owned and I am looking forward to all of the gigs that I will be playing with it. Time to break out the "Simandl book" again!!!
