Welcome to the Joel Lane Museum House, the oldest home in Wake County. Joel Lane was an important political figure in Wake County's early history, and is considered the father of Raleigh for his sale of 1000 acres of land on which the new capital was constructed.
The house was built in the 1770s and was originally located on Boylan Street. In 1914 it was moved to its current location, and in 1927 was purchased by the Wake County Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames. Today, it is restored to its 1790s appearance, as it would have looked when Joel Lane lived here.
