Known as the hall in Joel Lane's day, this room served several functions, as a dining room, ballroom, and gathering place for political meetings. Joel Lane was an active politician, and many important historical meetings were held in this room, including the first session of the Wake County Court in 1771, meetings of the Council of Saftey in 1776, and sessions of the Senate in 1781. In 1792, the decision was made here to purchase Joel Lane's land for the future site of Raleigh.

Besides several pieces of 18th-century furniture, this room features three original prints by the 18th-century naturalist Mark Catesby.
