Joel Lane was married twice, first to Martha Hinton with whom he had three children. After her death he married her sister Mary, with whom he had nine more children. Although there were a total of twelve children, the older children were already out of the house by the time the youngest were being born. Still, six or seven children would have been sleeping in this room at the same time.
