POST COURSE REFLECTION.
Advanced composition is not a very easy class to take. There is more involved in it than I thought when I first joined the class. At first I was really intimidated by everyone because the first thing I did was peer-editing and the level at which my classmates were writing really impressed me. I thought that that they were way out of my league and that my essays would just seem like a joke to them. So I set out to get to their level of writing.
The first essay I showed my teacher was one I had done
during a test in
Personally, I hate writing essays. It is one of those things that keep on making noise at the back of your head because you have not yet finished it and you know that it is due the next day. Othello I think is my worst piece of writing. I set out to expose Othello’s flaws and how they affected him, but I did not fully complete the task. On a one to ten scale I would grade it as a 5.
Using the Othello essay as inspiration to improve my writing, I came up with Traveling; my personal narrative essay, which I did in my modern literature class. I worked hard on it keeping in mind what I learned from peer editing and in the end it all paid off because I got an A plus on that essay.
Advanced composition has taught me how to set up an essay before you write it. How to go into detail when you are explaining a point, which is not a personal favorite of mine. I have also further learnt to quote from text based evidence and incorporate it into my essays.
Finally, I think I accomplished what I set out to do; which was to get to the level of my classmates in essay writing. I know if I had has more time in this class I would have been a much better writer than I am currently. But since that is not the case I am going to treasure what have learned and further develop it so that I can become a better writer. This class has been fun and I am grateful to the whole class for making me feel comfortable in my new school.
