STAR SPANGLED BANNER>
STAR SPANGLED
BANNER.
America
is the land that everybody wants to be in. It is “the land of opportunity.”
This country has been founded by immigrants and has a lot of cultural
diversity. Despite the fact that it is culturally diverse, the Star Spangled
Banner should not be recited in Spanish.
English is the standard language in
the U.S.A. and
we should not deviate from it. Permitting this will create a slippery slope
effect so that other people will argue for it to be recited in their languages.
I agree that having the Star Spangled Banner recited in Spanish is good, but it
will create more problems than it will solve. The aim of permitting translation
of the Star Spangled Banner is to provide greater accessibility to include
Spanish speaking Americans. However, allowing this will further enforce
language barrier. Reciting the Star Spangled Banner in English further
integrates Spanish-Americans
better into American culture, it will be proof of their utmost
allegiance to America
because it stands as a demonstration of their devotion and willingness to go
the extra mile.
The Star Spangled Banner is like a
goal. On soccer team you have different people with different backgrounds from
different places all working together to score that one goal. It is just the
same for the Star Spangled Banner, we must work together in a uniform language
to produce a more united America.
We should recite the Star Spangled Banner in English and help non-English
speaking Americans to strengthen their English so that we can proudly stand
side by side and express our patriotism by working together.
America
is the land of immigrants and for this reason it is even more important for America
to have a strong unwavering foundation. The Star Spangled Banner is one of the
foundational elements of our nation. Being a nation of immigrants, we must
strengthen our mutual relationships and preserve the homeland in solidarity. A
house divided cannot stand just as a nation torn between languages cannot
stand.
For these reasons I firmly
believe that we must stand in unison with one another to make a better country
and sing the Star Spangled Banner in English; the original language in the U.S.A.
