| ...finding irwin's place was straightforward enough...the journey up was smooth,,,left GP at 1930 and was at damansara at 2230! I had another pleasant surprise...I did not know my 19Litre elephant can cover 278km at 140km/h..topped up at Seremban. ...took the Ulu Yim-KKB route to Fasers'... missed the timed openings by 5mins...had to wait another hour...corners are comparable to those in the smaller back roads of CH...I would still consider frasers' a cousin brother of CH - King of the Hills! ...Gua Musang, interesting backroad town on the way to kota bahru...2 mins after my warm-water shower, there was a water-cut...regreted not getting an aircon room, the town was dusty and warm - and i was surrounded by rock formations around. Had a shitty room with a zinc roof view with KFC exhaust just 10m away - i ate more than usual... ...this is what i came for man...ROUTE 66! really an untouched route with hardly any kampongs along the way and no petrol stops for at least 150km...And the road have to end in the middle of nowhere as I was intrigued by the scenery...i had to press on the 5km of off-road - or it means backtracking back to route 8...a detour of almost 200km...I had several near miss as i went through pebbles, mud and uncompacted rocks!!! ...a sign of relief as i double-checked that there was no more such adventures as I took five at the next tea hut, soaking wet and feeling great i made it! ...trying not to feel overconfident on my 2nd visit to gerik...i did the corners with care after the stories I've heard...i cleared most of it a little faster than on my S4 then... ...decided not to spend another nite at a sleepy town after GM...pressed on to Taiping for the nite...and it was frasers' Hill revisit again as i took the backroads to the lake-town. It was a Sunday - kinda spoil the otherwise transquil setting of the Lake...Taiping is definitely a FOOD PARADISE! ...not a single drop of rain throughout my trip, this did not make taiping any cooler than GM...and it did not help by staying at a hotel cum brothel Hotel Koh Pin...so much for being adventurous! ...the Kg Raja route to Ipoh is completed! less the 3km of off road(route 66 was worse) ...no need to travel all the way to gerik already....there's already another mini-gerik at the other side of Cameron Highlands! |
