Tasik Chini - Lake Chini
9-12 April 2004
It was one of those unplanned trips...to somewhere Far from the madding crowd...

As usual, the causeway jam was horrendous; an exodus of Singaporeans fleeing the tiny affluent city state. Decided to take an alternative route to avoid the 20-30km of heavy traffic along Route 3; ended up taking the expressway all the way to Yong Peng toll.

It was a tiring journey as i took the longer segamat route 12 to Tasik Chini, and another hour or so finding the Orang Asli settlement, Kampong Gunman.

The 3 days there was sort of a 'detox' trip - no booze, no cigarette, early to bed, early to rise. Accomodation was in a simple hut; food was prepared with firewood and i had to walk half a kilometre for the only eating place in the village.  I was cut off from the rest of civilization the 3 days as the entire village has no telephone...
