"The Lost Beatles Sessions"
Although it sometimes seems an incredibly rare lost Beatles recording is found every other day, there are two little known sessions that produced intruiging results that will probably never see the light of day.
At the famous June 21-22 1961 German recording sessions that produced "My Bonnie" and others with vocalist Tony Sheridan, The Beatles recorded five songs by themselves. These include the well-known "Cry For A Shadow" instrumental and "Ain't She Sweet", both of which appeared on "Anthology 1". But John Lennon revealed that the Beatles had also recorded versions of "Kansas City", "Rock and Roll Music" and "Some Other Guy", but the German record company did not care for these tracks that, of course, would be recorded later by the band for EMI and the BBC. However, these original versions appear to have been destroyed early on, as
someone would have released them during the hey-day of Beatlemania.
Another lost session took place some years later, on September 4th, 1968. The Beatles were warming up before performing "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" semi-live for promotional clips. As they were wont to do, the band broke into some of their old favorites, in this instance including versions (possibly a
medley?) of Little Richards' "Good Golly Miss Molly", " Jenny, Jenny", "Lucille"and"Long Tall Sally", as well as Elvis' "It' Now Or Never". Though this sounds like it would be great, and the clips Director Michael Lindsay Hogg gushed over therse performances it appears they were never recorded, on film or elsewise.  NOTE: "Its Now Or Never" does indeed pop up on boot from time to time. Its done after one of David Frosts intros, and is a very brief, weird version.
In the context of what we've missed with these sessions, and what we've GOT, it's not much to cry about. That said however, who'd have thought we'd
ever hear a recording from the day John met Paul? So keep these lost gems in mind, since you never know, someday we might get lucky!
