| "There's Nothing You Can Know That Isn't Known"... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Welcome! These are some little heard stories about the Fab Four I've collected over the years and thought I'd share with my audience! If you have any rare Beatles stories, send them our way! And now, on with the show! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Did you know that the "Flying" sequence from the "Magical Mystery Tour" film is actually made up of out-takes from the movie classic "Dr. Strangelove"? Apparently someone who helped the Beatles with the film also worked on editing for "Strangelove" and happened to have the aerial footage leftover. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| George Harrison told a reporter in the film "A Hard Day's Night" that his hairstyle was called "Arthur". (you remember that sequence, don't you?) Well, in 1995 he informed journalist Dave Marsh that his hair was now called 'Cyril'!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When Apple computers first got off the ground in the 1970's, they had a rather interesing hurdle when the Beatles informed them that they were Apple and if the fledgling computer company wanted to use their name they'd have to pay for it. And pay they did, a hefty amount. The only stipulation was that they could not have anything to do with music. Well, when Apple Computers installed a music chip in their systems, they again had to pay Apple Corps Ltd. a very pretty penny indeed!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What is the connection between the Paul is dead hoax and the Beatles 1967 mustaches? As you may well know, Paul was involved in a motorbike accident in November, 1966. He recently revealed that he'd had a front tooth knocked out in the wreck, but because of that tooth, he suffered a nasty cut on his upper lip. How to cover it up? Paul grew a mustache to hide the gash till it properly healed. The other Beatles loved the new look and proceeded to grow their own lip hair! Then, of course, the bike accident metamorphed into the Paul is dead hoax a few years later. UPDATE!! Our friend Jez brought it to my attention that there was something a bit fishy here. After investigating... it's still fishy! In actuality, Pauls accident was on Dec. 26, 1965! The quote about Paul growing a 'stache to cover up the grisly details comes froma a McCartney staffer, however. We'll post more on this one soon! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Beatles had planned to release a spoken-word album on their new Zapple label not long after the "White Album" came out in 1968. The record would have detailed the bands musical and political feelings seriously for their audience. Alas, this fore-runner of the audiobook was axed by Apple managler...err, manager..Allen Klein before the Beatles could ever get around to recording it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| REPORTER UPON RELEASE OF THE BEATLES FIRST MOVIE: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "Can we look forward to any more Beatles movies?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| JOHN: "Of course, there will be many more. But I don't know if you can look forward to them." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In the early 70's John said he wanted to remake "I Want To Hold Your Hand" as a solo record, since it remained a tune close to his heart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Beatles, in early 1968, felt that they had slipped a bit in popularity in their native homeland. So, on the eve of the release of their new single, Paul took it upon himself to give the 45 some free publicity. Late at night in London's business district, he shoe-polished the title of the new release on a vacant store front window. This promotional vandalism would come to naught, however, as by the next morning someone had thrown a rock through the window, taking the painting to be an anti-Semitic slur. The single the Beatles thought needed promoting? "Hey Jude". | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Most folks know that the Beatles never really reunited after their 1970 breakup. However, there were many close calls. All four, of course, appeared on Ringo's self titled album in 1973. John, George and Ringo played together in the studio several times. (They obviously enjoyed playing music together: witness one of John's "Imagine" album sessions. When George walks into the studio, Ringo exclaims "George! Great!!" John immediately queries about the tuning of the Harrison guitar.)There is also the famous scene in the film "Imagine", where John and George discuss the where-abouts of several fictional 'Beatles'. There's John and Paul's famous LA recording sessions, the less said about the better. Paul was also instrumental in re-uniting John and Yoko during John's 'Lost weekend'. And everyone knows the near acceptance by John and Paul of "Saturday Night Live"s $3200.00 offer to appear. But here are two I'm betting you don't know: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Many major rock stars were invited to the Garden Party Wedding reception of Eric Clapton and the former Mrs. Patti Harrison in 1979. At the reception, nearly every musician got up on an outside stage to jam (among others Mick and Keef, Jack Bruce; members of the Who?) One by one the artists left the stage until the only three remaining were Paul, George and Ringo. Their choice of song? "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". (can you imagine?!!) But where was Mr. Lennon? Well, Paul later called John to rave about the jam and how they all could play together again. John was perplexed, until learning HIS invitation had been lost in the mail! John later admitted that had he been invited, he absolutely would have flown to England to re-join the Beatles for the party. Wonder if he'd have brought Yoko along... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The other , infinitely sadder story, was the revelation discovered among John's legal papers from 1980. On December 5, 1980, he had signed the document that would have brought the Beatles back together for an in-concert finale to the "Long and Winding Road" film (that later became the Anthology). John had always insinuated that it would only be HIM that could bring the band back together, and in this sad case, it appears true. John, as we all know, was gone from this place on the 8th of December. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| John ,at one point, considered starting a group featuring himself, George, Ringo and Klaus Voorman on bass. The band would have been called the LADDERS (?!).So I Suppose we can consider "I'm the Greatest" a Ladders record? Along the same lines, in early 1970, disgusted with John and his seemingly endless vacations, George thought about continuing the Beatles without Lennon! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| George and Eric Clapton teamed up before the White Album. Eric played on Harrison's "Wonderwall Music" soundtrack under the assumed name of 'Eddie Clayton" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Where did the story originate that the Beatles smoked pot at Buckingham Palace before accepting their M.B.E.s in1965? Paul, George and Ringo have always denied it ever happened. So it must have been John! (no big surprise there...) In the early 70's, while being interviewed by a radical underground magazine, told the reporter the story about dope in the Palace. But reading the article carefully perhaps reveals John's true intent. He seems to be joking about the whole thing; the joke was later picked up and spread through the years as a fact. But now you readers know better: it appears John was just joking and trying to make the Fabs look a bit more radical for all his hippie friends! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
