Summer Faith Course
Journal for the first week: The Human Condition

1) One paragraph summary of the key idea summarizing the topic of the week.

The major key idea studied this week was teh idea of Human Condition. The Human Condion is the situation where a person finds himself or herself experiencing things that all human beings experience around the world regardless of what time period they lived in. Some of these situations include boredom, anxiety, pain, death. We get these negative things because of the Fall of Man. This was when Adam and Eve committed the first sin. Almost all religons around the world believed in original justice, or that no one would ever die. But because of the fall of man that is no londer possible. Another result of the fall of man is original sin. Original sin refers to the fallen state of being which exists because of the fall of man.

2) List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this week.

a)One key idea talked about this week was evil. Evil is something morally abd or wrong; offensive or disgusting. We talked mainly in class about if their is evil is God really omnibenevolent and omnipotent?
b)Another key idea learned this week was concupisence. This is when you know something is wrong but you go ahead and do it anyway.
c)Another key idea taught was transference. This is the set of ways percieving and responding to the world which is developed in childhood and which is usually entirely appropriate to the childhood enviorment but not for the adult enviorment. An example given by Peck was about a guy who was constantly let down by his parents and grew to not trust in them. This carried over into his adult life and messes up his marriage.

3) One image of that reminds you of the topic. Attribute, link, your source.

For me this image gives is a good picture of the fall of man. If you look at the picture close enough you can see the difference between Adam's energy to reach for God and God's energy reaching for Adam. God is trying so hard to get people(Adam) to talk to him but we like Adam are making almost no effort at all. This happens because of the fall of man.

4) One good question you should keep with you to ponder.

How different would my life be if I was born in to a Catholic family rather than a Lutheran one?

5) What should you try to do to make you a better person, a more faithful person, from this study.

I think that I need to take a deeper look into and examine my life I say that I have done it but I really have not. Because of this I believe that I would act in a different way.
