I saw this kit for the first time as a kid. My friend, Matt, had this. He collected all the Aurora Monsters. I was into the space ships (Enterprise, Klingon Battle Cruisers, Battlestar Galactica, etc) and he was into the monsters. As the years passed, I always wanted to do he figure kits. Luckily, since then,I have been able to try my hand at these classic kits, thanks to Polar Lights. Though I did the Apes from ADAR and the AMT Spock, I never tackled the classic monster figures then. So now I have the chance. I was happy with the way the "Bellringer" turned out, so I thought I would post it. Maybe as time goes by, I will post pics of some of my other kits. But enjoy these for now.
Though it looks like I spilled glue on the lower left of the platform, I actually did that on purpose. I wanted it to look like sweat, and perhaps other bodily fluids made their way onto the platform during his brutal treatment.
Since the paint I used had a matt finish, (I used acrylic paint on the whole thing) I tried to poor the glue into the wounds, when finished, to make them look moist. I then put the blood red paint on my brush and tapped it with my finger onto his clothing and on the platform.
I LOVE that black pearl paint. It worked great on Robby and on King Kong. It also looks good here. It gives the shackles a "forged iron" look. Oh, and I lied (not intentionally), I used black enamel, instead of acrylic, on the band around the platform.
I wasn't too keen on the way the head and body come together, or how they look when finished, but you do what you can.
"I am not an animal...I am a HUMAN BEING..."
Well, that's that. Sorry for the quality of the pics. I used my camcorder and my snappy software. I plan on taking some 35mm stills, and when those come back, I will post them as well.
