ILS-Page 3

More examples

If you understand now you may want to take a look at more examples.

What is actually going on (2D picture) What the VOR 1 Shows What this means.
ILSLeft.bmp (345014 bytes)

TheRightILS.bmp (35898 bytes)

This means that in order to get back on the right track you need to turn to the left until you get to the center line where you turn to the runway heading. You are also too low.
CorrectILS.bmp (345014 bytes)

CenteredILS.bmp (37290 bytes)

Your fine! Just keep on the runway heading and touch down nicely. But you do need to be a bit higher.
RightILS.bmp (345014 bytes)

TheleftILS.bmp (37434 bytes)

You need to turn to the right to get back to the center line. From there turn left again to the correct runway heading. You are also too low.
The situation What the VOR shows What this means.
toohigh.bmp (324854 bytes)

VORHigh.bmp (36722 bytes)

Your aeroplane is too high for the landing, and needs to loose some altitude.
Just right.bmp (324854 bytes)

VORCorrect.bmp (37910 bytes)

Your aeroplanes fine, keep it at at that steady rate of decent and you should be fine for altitude. Note you are also lined up as well.
toolow.bmp (324854 bytes)

VORLOw.bmp (35958 bytes)

Your too low, if you don't watch it you will be landing on houses soon and wont make the runway. Either increase you altitude or stay at that level for a while. You also need to turn to the right to get back on the centerline.

VORCorrect.bmp (37910 bytes) In this case, you are fine, your height is right and so is your horizontal situation, i.e you are lined up for a nice landing. This is always what you should want in a correct landing.

Okay so lets do a check.

If you get the idea, but your still not positive see if this clears it up. Here's a simple test, see if you can match the right Vor like a with the right situation like 2. The answers are at the bottom. See if you got it right.

VOR Situation
example1.bmp (38694 bytes)A

1)Your at the right altitude, but you need to turn right to get on the center line.

example2.bmp (37182 bytes)B 2)Your too low, and you need to go towards the left to get back on the center line.
example3.bmp (36454 bytes)C 3)Your too low, you need to be a lot higher. You are on the center line.
