Taking Wing

click to listen

I am strong and big and powerful, gazing yearning for the sky
As mother earth surrounding me the goddess in me cries
I've spent so long denying me and the love I command
So I hope my words will carry the weight and you will understand

That this great fat bird is taking wing
Aint it a glorious sight
Well we may be clumsy held back on the ground
But there's none more graceful in flight
As my wingbeats, heartbeats cut through the wind
That bent me yesterday
Well together we can carry the world
And they'll hear what we say

It's hard to keep above water when they're holding your head down
But I won't justify my strength, as a reaction to a martyrs' crown
No we don't become all we can just through the sorrows we endure
But through faith in your fellow travelers capacity for love and change, and they in yours

CHORUS

You ask about when I have to land and face the truth, but it's not it's a lie
And so I'll answer many choose to build their homes up in the sky
And somewhere in between the hell below and burning out in the sun
Well I'll spend my time helping others learn to fly until my days are done

CHORUS
