RECOMMENDED NUTRITION BOOKS

· Nancy Clark (1997). Nancy Clarks Sports Nutrition Guidebook. Human Kinetics Publishers. Price: $16. Nancy Clark is one of America's foremost sports nutritionists. A very easy to read yet very comprehensive book on sports nutrition (it's almost 500 pages long). It covers just about everything. A must for anybody interested in sports nutrition whether you are a novice or an expert. Many recipes included.

· Susan Kleiner & Maggie Greenwood -Robinson . Power Eating: build muscle, gain energy, lose fat. Susan Price: ~$15. Human Kinetics. Good review of sports nutrition as it relates to strength training. Includes updates on many supplements. Debunks many myths. Recipes included. It compliments Nancy Clarks book. Easy to read.

· Victor Herbert, Geneel J. Subak-Sharpe, G.J. (1995) Total Nutrition: The Only Guide You'll Ever Need. Price: $16. At almost 800 pages, this book is a bargain! This book is sort of like the Yellow Pages of Nutrition - It covers everything!!! Pretty easy to read too.

· Steven Barrett and Victor Herbert (1994). The Vitamin Pushers. Prometheus Publishers. Price: $20-$25. This book chronicles all the scams and misinformation that the vitamin industry uses to pull the wool over our eyes with respect to vitamins and minerals etc. It's very comprehensive and gives readers inside looks into the histories and tactics used by some of the biggest names in the vitamin world. If you want to know the inside story, this book is for you!

· Melvin, Williams, (1998). The Ergogenics Edge. 316 pages. Price: $17.95. A Review of over 60 of the most popular ergogenic substances today. It's totally honest and cuts through the hype! A must if this is your interest.

· Varro E. Tyler. The Honest Herbal: A Sensible Guide to the Use of Herbs and Related Remedies. Pharmaceutical Products Press, 1993. Price-$17.95. The late Varro Tyler was the author of over 250 scientific and educational publications. He was a professor at Purdue Univ. and a respected name in the field of herb research. This book cuts through the folklore and presents the real evidence on herbs and their uses and misuses. Over 350 pages! All herbs are listed alphabetically for easy reference. Think of this book as the PDR of Herbs!

· Nutrition for Dummies. IDG Books, Inc. Price: $20-$25. There is nothing dumb about this book. It's very well written and makes a great first book as well as a good quick reference. Borders has it. I do NOT recommend Herbs for Dummies because I do not feel it mentions enough about side effects from herb use.
