This picture was taken by me at my apartment #110 at 803 South Main Street in Sweetwater, Tennessee, on December 2, 1994. I got this refrigerator for free from a friend, but it had been sitting on her back porch for ten years and looked pretty bad.
Since painting it would have been a major chore considering I didn't really have a place to do the work (the joys of renting), I started cutting random bits out of magazines and taping them to the refrigerator. It got to be a sport for those who knew me to go over to Joe's place to see if you could find what was "new" on the refrigerator.
The project was still in a fairly early stage here. The entire surface of the refrigerator was eventually covered. Eventually, I moved to a new apartment that had its own, new refrigerator, but I couldn't bear to part with this old behemoth after all the work I'd put into it. I gave the refrigerator to my friend, Eddie. He kept it in his barn, until it was destroyed by fire.
