| joe baker has become somewhat of a fixture in the st. louis music scene over the last 13 years. his music has outlasted many era's, genres and several of the area's finest bands. his current musical style can be described as acoustic rock, but the building blocks that brought joe to this place are quite interesting. at age 12 joe began rocking as guitar/vocalist on the southside of st. louis. his original glam rock stylings were put to good use in a band called WILD AND READY. W.A.R. spent about 3 years on the scene playing bars and nightclubs throughout the st. louis area. in high school joe molded the band into st. louis ska legends ORANGETREE. as a singer/songwriter/guitarist and trumpet, joe and OT spent almost 10 years on the ska scene touring the nation. the band was quickly signed and released two international releases on the indy label JUMP UP RECORDS. the fame and touring came to an end in 2001 as joe made his way back to college to finish up on his education degree. later that year joe formed the indy rock group MIKEY. as the singer/songwriter/guitarist, joe and MIKEY gained a great deal of local success opening for some of the nations top independent rock groups. MIKEY played their last show in july of 2003. his final stop in the group genre is VILLAGE IDIOT. the group plays a comedic style of music similar to the great TENACIOUS D. V.I. continues to rock st. louis. evidence shows that joe has established himself as musician. he continues to play the scene, but now in a different way. you may occasionally find him on stage doing an all original show, but you are more likely to hear him in the back of a small club playing a wide of array of cover tunes(with an original snuck in from time to time). people are hearing joe and liking him. his reputation is already drawing a steady to large crowd around the scene on a weekely basis. |
