| St. Mary's Visitiation Church in Dickson City has played an important role in our family over the past 100 years. Many member of our family have been baptized here, were married here, and were buried here. The Church's cemetery serves as the final resting place of at least three generations. The Church was founded by early Polish immigrants who settled in Dickson City, then known as Priceburg. The cornerstone was laid in 1910 and consturction completed in 1911. The architechure resembles the style of mid 19th century Eastern Europe. In addition to serving as a place of worship, the Church was the center of social life in the community, hosting dances, dinners and bingo. St. Mary's School provided the children of the community with an excellent education that included instruction in Polish until the 1960s. |
