Hamster Body Language

Hamster Body Language

If you are wandering what is your hamster thinking while he/she's doing something, here's a guide for you.

Grooming

All hamsters groom themselves, it is their way of keeping their coat clean and stops them smelling.  Your hamster may just lick their coat at the back and front, but they will also lick their paws then rub their paws over their face or behind their ears.  This is because they can't just lick their face!

Gnawing

You should provide your hamster with something to gnaw on (a wooden block, mineral stone, toilet tube etc.)  This is because hamsters teeth keep on growing so they must gnaw on things in order to shorten them.

Standing Up On Their Back Legs With Their Ears Up

Your hamster has heard something they are then listening and smelling to find out if there is any danger present.  Your hamster will also stand perfectly still while doing this, so that they won't get noticed.
