The Pet Hamster

Whether it is a Syrian or Dwarf Russian Hamster, the pet hamster retains many of its natural wild instincts. Hamsters are peaceful creatures, often timid and usually only aggressive if afraid or provoked. So, provided your pets are handled with care and thought, they will accept human companionship readily. Often their behavior in captivity can be understood by learning about their behavior in the wild. They make good pets for children and adults alike and their amusing antics give hours of pleasure to their owners. In captivity their territory is smaller than their natural environment so they appreciate time out of the cage in which to exercise. Their naturally inquisitive nature means that they love to explore new surroundings and will appreciate as many interesting items placed in their cage as possible. Hamsters need warmth, care and regular handling. Many people who do not own hamsters may think that one hamster is the same as another but hamsters do have individual characters and individual habits. A hamster can form a close bond with its owner and the more time, effort and affection put into the relationship with the hamster the stronger and more rewarding the relationship will be.
